For as far back as I
can remember, I was drawing. I copied comic book
characters and scenes from western movies and
made my own cartoons. "The Famous
Artist" commercial art course set up by
Norman Rockwell and eleven other artists was my
introduction to formal training and I completed
six correspondence courses before joining the
Navy. While in the Navy I studied with various
art schools and artist around the country. This
included Olympic Jr. College, Bremerton, WA and
with Allen Jones in Hampton, VA and Ray Goodbread
in Charleston, SC. While on recruiting duty in
Washington, D.C. I took several courses at
Corcoran School of Art and spent numerous lunches
at the National Gallery of Art and the National
Portrait Gallery

around the corner from the recruiting station
on Seventh and E Street. Then in 1972 the Navy sent me to
Pensacola Jr. College where I obtained an Associates Degree
in Fine Art. Following graduation, I returned to Washington
to work for the Chief of Naval Information and while at
the Pentagon, I enrolled at George Washington University
and resumed studies at Corcoran. I have art with the Navy's
Combat Art collection in Washington and with various political
and theatrical dignitaries around the country and overseas.
In 1962 I designed the two postal caches used for the historic
rendezvous of the submarines Skate and Seadragon at the
North Pole. In 1974 I assisted and was commended by Secretary
of the Navy James Middedorff in the organization of a special
show of Navy Combat Art .
